Jared Richards
What do you do at the Laboratory?
I currently serve as a special security representative within the Mission Security team. We work together to support and protect the research the Laboratory conducts for U.S. national security. Every day I'm able to work with security professionals from all different backgrounds to help protect the crucial research our technical staff conduct on a daily basis.
What brought you here?
I've always wanted to work in the national security field. I began my professional career as a federal law enforcement officer in Washington, D.C. and then, after moving back to Massachusetts, I began looking for new career opportunities and joined the Laboratory in 2023. I wanted a new career where I could still pursue my passion of working in national security and after reading the job description for my current role and doing some research on the Laboratory, I thought it would be a great opportunity. Two years later, I have no regrets.
From day to day, where do you find inspiration or motivation?
I read a lot of motivational and inspirational quotes, whether they be from a book, on social media, or things I hear or see on TV or in movies. But my family and friends are who truly push me to work hard and give 100% of my effort to whatever I may be doing.
Do you have any advice for someone seeking to work in your field?
Don't be afraid to jump at an opportunity when it’s presented to you.
