Christopher M. Roberts

Dr. Christopher Roberts is a technical staff member in the Optical Engineering Group, where he researches novel optics components and emerging materials coupled with advanced computational design for integrated and hybrid optical systems. His current research interests include phase-change materials, meta-optics, micro-optics, hybrid-optical systems, and analog computing paradigms.

Roberts originally joined Lincoln Laboratory as a postdoctoral associate in the Advanced Technology Division. Previously, he participated in the National Science Foundation Innovation Corps to accelerate the transfer of academic research into valuable product opportunities.

Roberts received a BS degree in astrophysics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where his research focused on radio astronomy instrumentation. Roberts then worked as a chemist in the healthcare sector and afterwards held the position of chief information officer for a small business in the flooring industry. He received his MS and PhD degrees in physics at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, where his research focused on theoretical and computational physics, with a strong focus in plasmonics and infrared metamaterials. He currently sits on the University of Massachusetts Lowell Physics Alumni Advisory Board.
